We were thrilled to join forces earlier this year with the Municipality of Amsterdam and the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam (ETCA) for the first edition of LeapSprong Amsterdam. Our mission? To propel groundbreaking solutions that will help create a sustainable and circular energy system across the Port of Amsterdam and the broader Metropolitan Region Amsterdam (MRA). Six startups took the jump with us on the first edition of LeapSprong Amsterdam: Accu’t, CarbonOrO, Spark e-Fuels, UP Catalyst, ParaStruct, and Skytree.
SkyTree
SkyTree is revolutionizing CO2 capture with their Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. By capturing CO2 directly from the atmosphere, SkyTree offers a stable, reliable, and sustainable CO2 supply, optimizing waste heat and reducing transport emissions. Their work is paving the way for more responsible industrial processes, making it a strong fit for testing and collaboration in the Port of Amsterdam.
Spark e-Fuels GmbH
Spark e-Fuels is on a mission to enable net-zero aviation by 2030. Their innovative approach to e-fuel production uses low-cost renewable electricity, making sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) more affordable. Spark’s technology could be a game-changer in Amsterdam’s journey toward a cleaner energy future.
CarbonOrO Products B.V.
CarbonOrO provides energy-efficient carbon capture solutions for industrial flue gases. Their post-combustion capture technology is crucial for industries looking to reduce their carbon footprint. By working closely with local industries, they are helping to make significant strides in reducing the carbon footprint of the energy sector.
UP Catalyst
UP Catalyst converts CO2 emissions into climate-neutral carbon nanotubes and graphite. This innovative process not only reduces atmospheric CO2 but also provides essential materials for the green energy transition. They plan to utilize emissions from various biogas producers and incineration plants in Amsterdam to create these climate-neutral nanotubes, further advancing the energy transition.
Parastruct
Parastruct transforms industrial and biological waste streams into high-value, low-emission construction materials through their patented recycling process. Their circular material platform is ideal for LeapSprong’s focus on upcycling waste and side streams.
Accu’t
Accu’t addresses net congestion challenges by providing second-life energy storage systems from repurposed EV batteries. Their flexible power solutions are vital for companies looking to transition to green energy. With Amsterdam’s high energy demands and congested areas, Accu’t’s solutions are crucial for achieving local energy transition goals.
Three startups have been awarded a six-month support program to further turn their ideas into reality for which a huge congratulations to:
- Accu’t, who will collaborate with various regional organisations to replace diesel generators and support the overloaded power grid with their solution.
- ParaStruct, who will further explore if they can use the ashes of local waste processors for sustainable construction materials.
- CarbonOrO, who will explore a new value chain: from CO2 capture to utilization in construction materials. They will do this together with partners identified during the program. We are excited to announce that CarbonOrO will work on their project from the ETCA, welcome on board!
