Announcing the teams joining the Sports Innovation League

Earlier this year, Rockstart joined Nederlandse Loterij and NOC*NSF to launch the Sports Innovation League, an innovation program targeting startups in the Dutch sports industry. We sought startups focused on enhancing both active and passive sports experiences in recreational sports, elite sports, or self-healthcare. Additionally, we targeted solutions that make a measurable contribution to selected goals of the Dutch Sportagenda 2032: elevating Dutch sports participation, expanding Dutch sports engagement, and increasing the enjoyment of sports.

After months of interviewing incredible founder teams, we’re excited to announce the startups joining the Sports Innovation League. Read on to learn what makes them exceptional choices for driving the future of sports.

Champ’s mission is to activate, motivate, and inspire employees to become more active in sports through their proprietary tech platform and sports marketplace. Through a network approach that involves various stakeholders, they offer four distinct services: a Corporate Wellbeing Program, Sports with Advantage, Sporty Team Outings, and the Champ SportCadeau gift card.

Sports are just as much about building connections as they are about getting active. Courtclub‘s mobile app transforms public basketball courts into accessible entry points for neighborhood sports. Communities are formed around each court, creating relevant and localized connections between players. For existing organized groups, the app offers an efficient alternative by eliminating the need for administrative tasks.

The future of sports is something we build together, and it’s our job to ensure it’s sustainable, fair, and circular.  Equip offers a circular solution through sports equipment rental via connected lockers. Their mobile app allows players to access equipment anytime, anywhere, with the ability to book and unlock stations via their phones. By promoting physical activity and providing real-time data to cities, they help communicate and encourage active lifestyles.

FC Urban

FC Urban breaks down barriers for participating in football matches through their app that fits games into your schedule. By removing fixed team obligations, they provide flexibility with unique spots reserved for 5-a-side games. Their algorithm dynamically forms teams, ensuring fun and balanced matches. Players can track comprehensive stats, including goals and wins, for a personalized football experience.

JOIN’s platform empowers cyclists to enhance their performance and track their progress with tailored training programs. Their platform engages users by offering a range of activities and programs tailored to different fitness levels and interests. JOIN’s platform adapts to show how fitness develops over time and provides insights on workout execution for continuous improvement.

Mingle Sport

Mingle Sport‘s app cultivates camaraderie among amateur athletes, making grassroot games even more enjoyable. They combine grassroots apps, hardware, and all the necessary tools into a single app offering team management, enhanced stats, AI tracking, and content sharing for all. This comprehensive app covers the full social network of a team, including players, staff, parents, and fans.

Monkey Moves

Monkey Moves understands that the love of sports and activity begins early in life. They offer hands-on tools for parents and programs for children starting at 18 months of age. They provide multisport classes aimed at one hour of play and coaching. Their Play app helps parents stay active with their children at home. Additionally, they offer an After School Program and a Physically Active Learning program for schools to promote physical activity throughout the day.

Renewaball is making racket sports more sustainable. They repurpose old tennis and padel balls to create new, circular ones. Made from 100% sheep wool from Yorkshire and Norway, Renewaballs are fully biodegradable and contain no microplastics. These balls are ITF, FEP, and IPF approved and have a 29% lower carbon footprint than other brands. Renewaball is also B Corp certified.

Sport BUFF

Sport BUFF ‘s interactive platform elevates the fan experience, fostering connections and enriching sports engagement. They offer a next-generation fan experience by developing a solution for real-time engagement with fans. They enable viewers to interact with content through polls, quizzes, trivia, chat, and ratings, fostering a sense of community.

Sportall is an end-to-end content management and streaming platform dedicated to sports events, offering professional services for operating digital streaming platforms. By enabling rights holders to become their own media through innovative business models, Sportall revolutionizes the sports streaming market. Their platform empowers sports organizations to reach a global audience, increasing sports engagement and visibility.

We were fortunate to receive many amazing applications for the first edition of the Sports Innovation League. Thank you to everyone who took the time to apply, and congratulations to the startup teams joining us this time around. The founders joining the Sports Innovation League kick off the program in July, where they’ll receive training and workshops, mentorship, and ecosystem support. The program will culminate in a Final Event in October to showcase their progress.

Stay tuned for updates on the program and keep an eye out for news from the Sports Innovation League.
