SEVERAL STARTUPS RECEIVED OFFERS ON THE SPOT, ONE STARTUP ALREADY FUNDED Last Friday we organized the first Rockstart Accelerator Demo Day at the Undercurrent location in Amsterdam-Noord. We’re glad to say it was an energetic and inspiring meeting of minds and money. It was also an instant succes due to the fact that several startups received offers at the venue and have investor meetings planned for the coming days. One of the startups, Postcron, even received funding before Demo Day. Over 300 investors, mentors, guests and members of the press were present as our 10 startups pitched their business. There was no time wasted by the investors as several startups received investment offers on the spot. As mentioned one startup, Postcron, from Cordoba, Argentina, closed its seed funding even before the pitch at Demo Day. This startup is now ready to speed up development in its push to become the #1 social media planning tool in Latin America by the end of 2012. “And the rest of the world will follow suit”, according to founder Alejandro Rigatuso. During the last 100 days, the startups have all been working almost 24/7 to develop and grow their business at the Rockstart Accelerator HQ on Rembrandt Square. The founders were very glad with the reactions from the audience. Pepijn de Visscher from IdeeDock told us: “Demo day was magic. The awesome responses we got from investors literally propelled our confidence and energy through the roof!” Stefano Cutello from Pastbook was also overwhelmed by the reactions: “Really more than I expected. I had a queue of people that was waiting to talk with me just 10 second after my pitch. Everything was really perfect. Now we just have to make it happen.” Don Ritzen, managing director of Rockstart Accelerator: “During the past 100 days the startups have truly grown their businesses, their products and their teams to the next level. The shift to thinking global was clearly demonstrated in their performance last Friday at Demo Day: high energy and aspiration, big ambition and most of all 200% focused.” The event was picked up by several general and special interest media outlets, among others Emerce.nl and Financieel Dagblad. The startups will use the coming weeks, as part of the Rockstart Summer Program, to close investment, continue customer development and prepare for the Rockstart roadtrip to San Francisco/Silicon Valley, September 6 – Oct 1, 2012.
